Who We Are

I-CARE • Individualized Community Adult Reading Education

Reading and writing are essential skills that make a difference in everyday lives. Since 1978, the I-CARE Adult Literacy Program at ÇïϼÂ×Àí has been dedicated to helping English-speaking adults improve these skills. Our learners come from diverse backgrounds and age groups.

ÇïϼÂ×Àí was the first community college in British Columbia to train volunteer tutors for adult literacy. Our dedicated volunteers meet with learners once a week to provide one-on-one support. Over the years, I-CARE has helped more than 800 adults enhance their basic reading and writing skills.

Our Philosophy

The I-CARE Adult Literacy Program offers cost-free, individualized tutoring to help adults improve their functional reading and writing skills.

  • Learning to read and write is a basic right for everyone.

  • Everyone should have the opportunity to learn, whether building on existing knowledge or exploring new subjects.

Who Can Join the Program?

  • English-speaking adults who find reading and writing challenging or need to improve skills.

  • Able to meet with tutors for two hours, once a week.

  • Motivated to improve reading and writing skills.
